BROOD PERFORMANCE WILL BE PRESENTED FOR THE FIRST TIME AS PART OF MOVE 2023 FOCUSING ON THE NOTION OF AN ‘UNDISCIPLINED BODY’, CURATED BY CAROLINE FERREIRA

The new performance by Dorota Gaweda & Egle Kulbokaite takes place in the course of a long day. It is entitled BROOD, in reference to the clichés of horror films. It focuses on the moments when identities merge, the body is no longer a frontier that contains and supervises but a porous identity with leaks and spillages linking us to the world. Over one whole day, the performance will take place in several spaces, between the Sulk installation in Forum – 1, the Petite Salle and the virtual environment of the video transmission.

BROOD featuring Oskar Pawelko with Justyna Chaberek is both a performance and a video, produced live throughout its duration. BROOD unfolds within six hours in five scenes punctuated by intermissions. The performance is framed within a continuous sound piece audible both in Hall 3 and the Petite Salle, throughout the day. Created in collaboration with Oxhy, a musician based in London, the soundtrack brings together a multiplicity of voices, echoes and references ranging from body horror to polyphonic singing. In Scene 1 a conversation between an upiór / planetnik and their second soul unravels the identities of the two characters. Scenes 2 and 4 are deconstructed restagings of a choreographed moment of possession of Isabelle Adjani in the 1981 eponymous film by Andrzej Zulawski. Scene 3 takes as its starting point the practice of Sutartines, Lithuanian multi-part singing tradition most often performed by women. The selected songs speak of the rue plant known for medicinal qualities. In Scene 5 the performers approach another such tradition hailing from Epirus. In this final sene the voices of the Isokratisses group are joined by another. During the intermissions the performers will appear in various locations, haunting the spaces of the Centre Pompidou.
